Gunfire was heard near the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The shots continued for about half an hour. All roads leading to the embassy have been closed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The embassy reported that the staff members were not injured.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Investigations are underway and we are in close contact with host country law enforcement,” the U.S. embassy said. <\/span><\/p>\n

The command of the Lebanese Army also issued a statement, noting that people were injured in the gunfire; the circumstances of the incident are being established.<\/span><\/p>\n

Various media outlets reported that the gunman was a Syrian national.<\/span><\/p>\n
