The further shattering of Armenia’s sovereignty in the field of security and the passage of Western patterns under the “paper umbrella” of the U.S. and NATO will simply make it impossible to maintain a common defense area with Russia and within the CSTO, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“On our side, we have repeatedly and at different levels clearly expressed our readiness to discuss the issues that concern Yerevan,” the official noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, the West pushed the Armenian authorities to freeze the country’s participation in the CSTO. “Yerevan’s full participation in the activities of the CSTO is in the interests of the Armenian people and serves the efforts of maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus,” Galuzin said, noting that there are no effective alternatives to the CSTO as a mechanism for ensuring Armenia’s security.
