“We want to empower citizens to be able to take control over their own data,” Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission’s executive vice president for competition policy, said.<\/p>\n
The EU antitrust law fully went into effect in March, with proponents claiming that it would keep big internet companies from abusing their market power to the detriment of consumers.<\/p>\n
Meta could face fines of as much as 10 percent of its annual global revenue if the commission upholds the stance in its final decision.<\/p>\n
