Armenia has been treading the path of Ukraine for a long time, political scientist Yury Svetov told Izvestiya.<\/p>\n
According to him, Pashinyan came to power in 2018 with a very clear goal: to separate Armenia from Russia and move toward the West. According to the expert, Nagorno-Karabakh was a burden on Armenia, which Pashinyan wanted to remove.<\/p>\n
“Pashinyan clearly decided that this burden should be lifted. He lost the conflict with Azerbaijan; he was not going to defend Karabakh, did not recognize it and did not show real support. As a result, the people left Karabakh,” Svetov said. At the same time, Pashinyan blamed Russia for the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n
According to the expert, this is “a rather unpleasant situation.”<\/p>\n
“And throughout the past year, the secretary of the Security Council, Grigoryan, traveled to the U.S. for negotiations. Moreover, Armenia has the largest U.S. embassy in post-Soviet territory. Now announcements are being made that he does not need the CSTO; he is going to attend the NATO summit. It was all leading up to this. In addition, a strategic partnership agreement is being signed with the U.S.,” the expert noted.<\/p>\n
“Here, of course, it is important how Turkey and Iran will act. We have no border with Armenia; we can communicate with it only via Georgia, Turkey, and Iran.
