Turkish armed forces put on alert

The Turkish Armed Forces have been put on alert in connection with a possible operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Syria, Türkiye reports, citing military sources.

The report notes that Ankara had demanded the new authorities in Syria take necessary measures against the PKK.

Turkey is now preparing for any developments, including military operations, with troops stationed along the Syrian border being readied for potential action, the article states.

On Jan. 7, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued an ultimatum to PKK members located in Syria. He stated that Turkish authorities have demanded that PKK representatives lay down their arms and leave Syrian territory. If this proposal is ignored, Ankara may initiate military operations.

Days earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Kurdish militants “will either bid farewell to their weapons, or they will be buried in Syrian lands along with their weapons.”
