Pashinyan, who was urging people to flood the streets and squares of Armenia, had been injured by a Zarya grenade used by the police during the revolution in 2018, when he was crossing barbed wire on Baghramyan Avenue.

Throughout Pashinyan’s years in power, the police did not heed his call: In 2024, Zarya grenades were once again deployed on Baghramyan Avenue—again near the National Assembly—as protesters attempted to block the building.
