He’s a lame duck: US treasury secretary on Canadian prime minister
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent believes that no one takes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seriously. He made this statement while commenting on the retaliatory tariffs imposed by Ottawa on U.S. goods.
“He’s a lame duck, a dead man walking. I don’t think he’s ever been taken seriously. I expect Mark Carney, Former Governor of the Bank of Canada, to become prime minister next week. He’s more sensible. We’ll see what happens,” the U.S. treasury secretary said during an appearance on Fox News.
To remind, on March 4, the U.S. administration imposed a 25% tariff on nearly all goods imported from Canada and Mexico, as well as raised tariffs on goods from China to 20%.
Subsequently, Trudeau stated that the U.S. has started a trade war against Canada, prompting Ottawa to impose retaliatory tariffs against Washington.
