Syrian court issues arrest warrant for Assad in absentia

A Syrian court has issued an arrest warrant in absentia for former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, TASS reports, citing the chief judge.

“An arrest warrant was issued for Assad in absentia in connection with charges related to events that took place in Daraa in 2011,” the judge said.

According to the judge, this decision “opens the path for international prosecution.”
