The migrants have taken over France: Trump calls on France to close its borders quickly

US President Donald Trump said that mass riots in France showed that the immigration situation had spiraled out of control. He called for the borders to be closed to illegal immigrants.

''The migrants have taken over France. They (the authorities) must close the borders, fast!” the US president wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

His remarks came amid widespread looting and riots across France over the weekend.

On October 17, nationwide protests took place in France, led mainly by left-wing trade unions. The demonstrations also involved secondary school and university student organizations, as well as representatives of the “Yellow Vests” movement. One of the main demands was action to address the sharp rise in the cost of living. Protesters also called for lower prices for fuel and essential goods.

Serge Papin, France’s Minister for Trade and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, said that 3,000 shops had been damaged during the looting that took place amid the protests in France.
