Syria’s Defense Ministry and security forces announce closure of coastal roads
Syria’s Ministry of Defense and security forces have announced the closure of roads leading to the country’s coastal areas, the Syrian state news agency SANA reports.
On March 6, fierce battles erupted between Syrian security forces and armed groups opposing the new authorities in the city of Jableh, several districts of the city of Latakia, as well as in the mountainous regions of Latakia and Tartus governorates.
“Following the restoration of control over the majority of areas, the Syrian Ministry of Defense, in coordination with the General Security Directorate, announces the closure of roads leading to the coastal areas to detect and prevent violations, with the aim of gradually restoring stability in the region,” the news agency said.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense has formed a commission to identify violations and take to military court those who have breached the command’s orders during operations conducted in the coastal areas.
