Germany reopens embassy in Syria after 13-year closure
On March 20, Germany reopened its embassy in Damascus after a 13-year closure, Deutsche Welle reports.
The embassy, which was closed in 2012 due to the civil war in Syria, has been officially reopened by Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, marking her second visit to Syria since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
As noted, a small number of German diplomats will resume their activities in Damascus; however, consular services, such as visa issuance, will continue to be handled in Beirut.
