US energy secretary: The US must modernize its nuclear arsenal

Washington needs to modernize its nuclear arsenal, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said in an interview with Fox News.

“We should now focus not on increasing our nuclear stockpiles, but on modernizing our weapons,” Wright said.

He considered it an incredible achievement that Americans created the world’s first atomic weapon during World War II. According to him, this allowed them to end hostilities earlier, saving tens or hundreds of thousands of American lives.

“This was followed by three decades without the creation of new nuclear weapons, which has rendered our entire arsenal outdated,” Wright noted, adding that the key aspect about nuclear weapons is not to use them.
