Turkish court rejects appeal for release of Istanbul mayor
On April 14, a Turkish court rejected the application for the release of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu from prison until the results of his corruption trial, Anadolu Agency states.
The Istanbul first-instance criminal court decided to dismiss İmamoğlu’s lawyers’ appeals, ruling that his detention will continue. Lawyers representing the mayor argued that the investigation against İmamoğlu was conducted in violation of legal norms. They are expected to update their appeal.
