UK tests new radio wave weapon

The U.K. Ministry of Defence has announced the successful testing of a new radio wave weapon designed to neutralize drone swarms. The relevant statement was posted on the British government’s website.

As noted, the new weapon could help defend against threats posed by drones as the nature of warfare changes.

According to the statement, the weapon system demonstrator is a type of Radiofrequency Directed Energy Weapon (RF DEW) and has proven capable of neutralizing multiple targets simultaneously “with near-instant effect.”

The U.K. Government has invested more than £40 million in RF DEW research and development to date. The RF DEW demonstrator has been developed by an industry consortium led by Thales UK.
