Once “persona non grata” in Azerbaijan, now hostage
In 2013, Azerbaijan disclosed the list of people whose entry
into the country is banned. This “blacklist” is being updated on a regular
basis.
The reason for the ban was the violation of the Constitution
of Azerbaijan and the so-called law concerning state borders. Under these laws,
those who visited Artsakh without their permission, appeared on that list.
Initially, 330 people had been put on the list. However, this number gradually
increased to 698. Many prominent people have been put on the list, namely
singers, actors, political figures and journalists. Thus, it turns out that
Azerbaijan makes the world move within its constitution.
The international community was not taking this fact
seriously. Now, they are not taking it seriously either, when Azerbaijan
pursues the same policy in a more dangerous way. Back then, we could be
declared persona non grata in Azerbaijan; today, they can take us hostage.
