Do not play politics with my grief, with my daughter’s body: Helen’s mother to Pashinyan and Mirzoyan
Alvard Safaryan, the mother of 20-year-old Helen, who died
in the Shirak road accident, wrote an open letter to Nikol Pashinyan and
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“My daughter’s body has been in the morgue in Gyumri
for 14 days. The ICRC told us that Armenia and Azerbaijan have turned the
transportation of 20-year-old Helen’s body into a political issue. Why should
someone play politics with my grief? That is unacceptable,” reads the
letter.
Helen’s mother noted that the only thing that she wants from
the entire world, from the Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities, is to be
allowed to bury her daughter in her homeland.
“I am calling on you, Nikol Pashinyan and Ararat
Mirzoyan to fulfill your obligations and solve this problem. My daughter should
be buried in her homeland; she should be next to us; you have to solve this
problem. Do not politicize my daughter’s tragic death. I will not give up until
my daughter is next to me,” she wrote.
To remind, on Aug. 14, a Volkswagen minibus collided with a
Zil truck on the highway from Yerevan to Gyumri, near Lanjik village. Twelve
people died in the accident.
