NATO not discussing Georgia’s membership, says Kobakhidze
NATO is not considering Georgia’s and Ukraine’s accession to the alliance in the medium term, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters.
“As for NATO-Georgia relations, you can see how recent events have developed. NATO says it is not discussing Ukraine’s and Georgia’s accession… in the near or medium-term perspective, which is a fact. Let’s see how events develop in the future,” Kobakhidze stated.
At the 2008 Bucharest Summit, NATO announced that Georgia would become a member of the alliance in the future. In 2015, the NATO-Georgia training center was opened, becoming an important element in training Georgian and international troops. NATO membership has been a priority in Tbilisi’s foreign policy.
