Hayakve’s 1st stage ends with 58,000 signatures

The first stage of Hayakve achieved the desired result two
weeks before the deadline.

“Fifty-eight thousand people have already joined the
initiative. Our next step is the counting and identification of votes,”
Coordinator of the initiative Avetik Chalabyan said.

He noted that they will take a break now for two weeks in
order to conduct all that work and submit the results to the CEC. The latter
has a month to validate the results.

“The results should be validated within a month, which
means that this may be done even earlier. We should take into account the fact
that the Yerevan Council of Elders elections are due soon, and the CEC is
heavily engaged in this process. After the CEC validation, the bill will be
brought before Parliament. The NA, in its turn, has two months to debate it.
Afterward, the bill will be put to a vote,” Chalabyan said.

He noted that this process will start in late September and
called on diplomats and constitutional experts to join the initiative.
