Our time is running out: Telegram founder calls to ‘save free Internet’

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has talked about the future of internet freedom in a statement published on his 41st birthday.

“Our generation has little time left to save the free internet that our ancestors created for us,” Durov wrote on Telegram.

According to Telegram’s founder, “what was once a promise of free exchange of information is becoming a crucial tool of control.”

“Once-free countries are introducing dystopian measures. Germany persecutes anyone who dares to criticize officials online. The United Kingdom imprisons thousands of people for their tweets. France is launching criminal investigations against tech leaders who defend freedom and privacy,” Durov wrote.

“Our generation risks going down in history as the last to have freedoms and allow them to be taken away,” the Telegram founder said.
