Vardan Oskanyan: There can be a long-term and better solution without a war

What Pashinyan is doing now is more than clear, and there is
no need to analyze his actions. He very much agrees that Artsakh is already
part of Azerbaijan and does not stand out against that. Former Foreign Minister
of the Republic of Armenia Vardan Oskanyan said this in the video posted on his
Facebook page.

As he noted, if that document is signed, Artsakh, along with
its 120,000 population, will end up as part of Azerbaijan.

“They talk about a dialogue between Stepanakert and
Baku. This is nothing but a way of throwing dust in people’s eyes. Right after
they sign this document, Artsakh will end up as part of Azerbaijan and that’s
it,” he said.

Oskanyan noted that Pashinyan’s actions are not only
unacceptable and incomprehensible, but also unrealistic.

“He wants to cede something that does not belong to
him, above all. He wants to cede territories that have belonged to the people
of Artsakh for thousands of years. Armenians have always lived there. He wants
to cede territories that have never been part of independent
Azerbaijan—territories that had an autonomous status even in the Soviet period.
He wants to cede territories that have constituted an independent political
unit for the past 30 years. After all, he wants to cede Artsakh so that it is
annihilated, along with its people. Today, there are more than 50 movements for
self-determination. No one has relinquished his claim for self-determination,
and we Armenians are going to be the first,” Oskanyan said.

As Oskanyan claims, if such a document is signed, Armenia
will enter a phase of increased instability, and it will be overly difficult to
get out of it. According to the former foreign minister, Pashinyan’s action
cannot bring about peace. His actions can establish good relations between his
office and Azerbaijan, but never between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples.

“Pashinyan must reconsider the policy he has adopted. I
want our people to fully realize that there can be a long-term and better
solution without a war. The other solution is unrealistic, and I call on
Pashinyan to reconsider the policy he has adopted. We are all ready to
unite,” Oskanyan said.
