Monkeys infected with hepatitis C and COVID-19 escape from truck in US

In Mississippi monkeys infected with hepatitis C, herpes, and COVID-19 escaped from a truck involved in an accident, The Independent reports.

“The truck was transporting Rhesus macaques from Tulane University. They weigh approximately 40 pounds, are aggressive toward humans, and require personal protective equipment for handling,” law enforcement officials said.

Several of the escaped macaques died, and searches for the remaining animals are ongoing.
