USSR ‘fans’ arrested in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani media report that several organizers of a demonstration promoting communist ideology were detained in Baku after displaying Soviet Union flags.

According to the reports, Abdullah Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, and several other participants of the march were identified and arrested, and criminal proceedings have been launched against them.

The preliminary investigation found that the individuals had rented an office with the support and funding of another state, operated as a group, and held regular meetings. During searches of their offices and apartments, authorities discovered and seized large quantities of materials promoting communist ideology, flags, books described as “propagating radicalism,” CDs, and other electronic devices.
