Azerbaijani ambassador in Russia says Baku awaits end of probe into last December’s tragedy
Relations between Baku and Moscow developed successfully in almost all areas in 2025, despite the deterioration that followed the December 2024 tragedy, when an Embraer 190 aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan’s AZAL airline crashed, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, told Lenta.ru.
“The fundamental issue in bilateral relations today is the swift and fair resolution of all matters related to last December’s tragedy,” Mustafayev said.
According to him, Baku is awaiting the conclusion of the investigation into last year’s tragedy and hopes for the prompt payment of compensation, as well as for those responsible to be held accountable.
“The statements made and the agreements reached in Dushanbe on Oct. 9 are an important step in this direction,” the ambassador said.
