Senior US official to limit visit to Yerevan only, Suren Sargsyan says

A senior U.S. official is expected to limit their trip to a visit to Yerevan only, Armenian international relations expert Suren Sargsyan has said.

“As the topic is relevant, let me present a few historical facts,” Sargsyan wrote. He noted that among U.S. presidents, only George W. Bush has ever visited the region, traveling to Georgia. Among U.S. vice presidents, only Mike Pence visited the South Caucasus, also going to Georgia during Donald Trump’s first term.

“It is also noteworthy that in February the United States will not have ambassadors in any of the South Caucasus countries. In all three states, ambassadors will not yet be appointed for various reasons. This is also unprecedented,” he wrote.

“Additionally, according to the information I have at the moment, the American official is not planning to visit other countries in the region and will limit the trip to Yerevan only.”
