Germany delivers its 9th IRIS‑T system to Ukraine
Germany has supplied Ukraine with its ninth IRIS‑T air defense missile system. This was announced by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, according to unian.net.
According to the report, the high‑tech IRIS‑T missiles are capable of rapid maneuvering, can engage targets both head‑on and in pursuit, and are equipped with highly sensitive infrared homing seekers. They are able to strike modern aircraft, penetrate their defenses, and distinguish real targets from decoys.
Currently, two variants of the IRIS‑T system are in use: SLS (short‑range), with a range of up to 12 km and an altitude of up to 8 km, and SLM (medium‑range), with a range of up to 40 km and an altitude of up to 20 km.
The IRIS‑T is a modern air defense missile system produced by the German company Diehl Defense. The system is designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and cruise missiles.
