Lukashenko grants pardon to 22 convicts, 20 of whom are political prisoners

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree granting pardons to 22 individuals, meduza.io reports, citing Lukashenko’s press service.

Of those pardoned, 20 had been convicted on charges related to so-called “extremist activities.” The list of those granted clemency includes 15 women and seven men, 11 of whom have minor children. The names of the pardoned individuals have not been disclosed.

According to the presidential press service, all of those pardoned had submitted personal requests for clemency to the head of state, acknowledged their guilt, and expressed remorse.

Meanwhile, the Viasna Human Rights Center maintains that the 20 individuals are political prisoners.
