The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan confirmed that Iran had declared four members of the Azerbaijani diplomatic corps personae non gratae (unwelcome persons).
MFA Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada, referring to the local media’s questions about declaring the officials of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran and the Azerbaijani Consulate-General in Tabriz personae non gratae, said, “In early April this year, four officials of the Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan were declared personae non gratae.
The Iranian side, in turn, a few days after this step taken by Azerbaijan, without any grounds, resorted to the reciprocity principle, declaring two officials of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran and two of the Consulate-General personae non gratae. The latter left the country afterward,” said Hajizada.
