Nearly 15,000 nurses in New York walk off the job

Nearly 15,000 nurses across New York City are now on strike as of Monday morning after no agreement was reached ahead of the deadline for contract negotiations, ABC7 New York writes.

It is the largest nurses’ strike in the city’s history.

The hospital locations impacted by the strike include Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, Montefiore Hospital and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The New York State Nurses Association contract expired on Dec. 31.

The union says it wants higher pay, an increase in staff to manage patients, fully funded benefits and better workplace protections against violence for its members.
