Mozambique’s leader cancels Davos trip after floods kill more than 100
Mozambique’s President, Daniel Chapo, has canceled his planned visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The decision comes in the wake of devastating floods in the southern African country, which have claimed dozens of lives and damaged or destroyed tens of thousands of homes, Bloomberg reports.
According to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction, nearly half a million Mozambicans have been affected by the floods caused by heavy rains that began last month. Reports indicate at least 105 deaths linked to the severe weather conditions.
Mozambique’s Meteorological Service has issued new heavy rainfall warnings for the affected areas.
