Trump threatens 200% tariff on French wine and champagne
US President Donald Trump has threatened his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, with a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne, Bloomberg reports.
The announcement came after journalists informed Trump that Macron might reject joining the Gaza Peace Board.
“Well, no one needs him since he will soon leave office… I will impose a 200% tariff on his wine and champagne, and he will join,” Trump said.
Macron’s second term ends next year. The French president has stated he will not run in the next election.
Donald Trump announced the creation of the Peace Board on Jan. 16. Its members include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British PM Tony Blair.
