International Crisis Group president: It’s striking to see just how close the two sides’ military positions are to each other above settlements

If both Baku and Yerevan engage with the EU Mission in
Armenia, it could help prevent incidents and launch cooperation on cross-border
projects. President of the think-tank International Crisis Group Comfort Ero
made an X post on this, while patrolling with the EU Mission in Armenia.

“It’s striking to see just how close the two sides’ military
positions are to each other above settlements. The EU’s decision to increase
the mission’s personnel is welcome. Villagers still hear shots often fired, but
casualties have decreased in recent months,” Ero wrote.

She also noted that the think-tank urges both sides to
return to peace talks, including border delimitation.

“Efforts by Western partners to monitor developments are an
important measure to create conditions for talks to go ahead,” Ero wrote.
