Yesterday, the National Assembly adopted a bill absolving of legal responsibility those who have turned 27 and have not yet done military service. The bill was passed at its second reading by 61 votes to 27, with six abstentions. It was introduced by Hayk Sargsyan, an MP from the ruling party.
Although the bill was not approved by either the Opposition or the Armenian Ministry of Defense, it was adopted.
Deputy Defense Minister Gabriel Balyan said they had asked the NA members to take into account the position of the Ministry of Defense on the issue. The ministry had assured the MPs that a month’s military service will not give the desired result. Details in the video:
