Mil Mi-8 helicopter crashes in Russia
A Mil Mi-8 helicopter, belonging to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, crashed into Lake Onega, the Russian media reports.
It fell onto the surface of the lake and was submerged by ice. Early reports suggest that the crew members died.
Shot reports that due to search operations, rescuers found a part of the crashed helicopter about 12 km from the village of Derevyannoye.
In the morning, divers will continue to work at the scene; the depth there may reach 50 meters.
As reported, the Mil Mi-8 was flying to Vytegra for the international conference “Russian Ice – 2024”.
In connection with the helicopter crash, a criminal case has been brought under the article of breaking traffic safety rules and air transport regulations.
The law enforcement agencies are considering three versions of the crash: wrong choice of the crew, weather conditions and the malfunction of the helicopter.
