A piece of history that will soon come to an end: Kond
This district, Kond, spreading over an area of 16 hectares, is a unique reflection of the Armenian reality: the collective image of our reality and history. This district, reminiscent of the ragged clothes of a hermit, is the only witness of Old Yerevan: the silent witness of a 3,000-year-old city, with its existence only attesting that this is an ancient city. Besides Kond, there are also the inscriptions of Argishti. Yerevan did not have a city plan until the second half of the 19th century, and we know next to nothing about the real borders of Kond.
Architects consider that Kond — its streets’ layout — has reached us unchanged since the 18th century. It was formed without architectural designs, just over time.
