Baku accuses Washington of undermining security efforts of regional countries
The U.S., that is a non-regional country, foils the
transport security efforts of regional countries with its actions and
statements. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this, in
response to the statement made by Assistant Secretary of State for European and
Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien.
“The U.S. is well aware that Armenia’s failure to meet its
obligations arising from Clause 9 of the 2020 tripartite statement, made
Azerbaijan take a decision on building alternative roads,” the Azerbaijani
Foreign Ministry noted.
As mentioned, the conclusion of an agreement on establishing
transport links with the neighboring states, as well as the agreement with Iran
on the route to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is the sovereign right of
Azerbaijan.
“With this in mind, Azerbaijan once again notes that the
“3+2” format (Azerbaijan-Armenia-Turkey-Russia-Iran) is a priority for the
security of the region. Any statement, undermining efforts made in this regard,
is inappropriate,” reads the statement issued by the ministry.
