Central Electoral Commission to grant Levon Kocharyan parliamentary seat

Central Electoral Commission to grant Levon Kocharyan parliamentary seat

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia holds a meeting
at 3:00 p.m. today. Two issues will be on the agenda for the meeting: drawing
up a document on granting a parliamentary seat and drawing up a document on
granting a seat of a Yerevan Council of Elders’ member.

A seat will be granted to Levon Kocharyan from the RA NA
Armenia Alliance. Levon Kocharyan is RA Second President Robert Kocharyan’s
son. He is currently held in custody.

To remind, Levon Kocharyan was arrested, then remanded in
custody in September during the protests in support of Artsakh.

He has been charged with using violence against an authority
representative. Levon Kocharyan does not plead guilty, noting that the charge
has been trumped-up.

After Armen Charchyan resigned his parliamentary seat, three
members on the list of the Armenia Alliance, namely Mihrdat Madatyan, Gerasim
Vardanyan and Anzhela Nalbandyan, refused to take up the seat. Next on the list
is Levon Kocharyan.

After Levon Kocharyan takes up the parliamentary seat, he
cannot be kept in custody.
