Archbishop Bagrat: Draw your own conclusions, will I need Canadian citizenship?
For me, Canadian citizenship is just a document, a passport and proof that I lived there. It was given to me legally. Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the primate of the Diocese of Tavush, said at a meeting with journalists at the Union of Journalists, referring to the issue of giving up Canadian citizenship.
“Canadian citizenship means only that to me, although I have great respect for the Canadian people. However, what will be required for Armenia and Artsakh, and which will serve that purpose, I am not only ready to give up, but to surrender myself. It is something unheard of and unseen that a bishop or an archbishop can go out into the street. I think that should have been enough,” he said.
Archbishop Bagrat summed up his speech with a song he wrote years ago.
“Hello, Armenia, my love,
I love you more than my life.
Who am I without you
My country blessed?”
Well, let everyone draw their own conclusions: will I need Canadian or Cosmic citizenship? It means nothing to me,” Archbishop Bagrat said.
