Today, May 21, there will be a lawyers’ strike in protest against the shameful legislative changes related to advocacy. Among other unacceptable reforms, the ruling power wants to impose a tax on the provision of free services by lawyers. It will prove an additional obstacle to the free-of-charge provision of legal assistance to our compatriots who are under political pressure.
“Totally agreeing with both the goal of the strike and the chosen avenue, we would like to announce that we will partially join the strike. The cases of political prisoners and those of other persons subjected to political pressure will be an exception, and we will not refuse to work on them,” the Five Human Rights Defenders initiative said in a statement.
