Presidential elections date fixed in Iran

A snap presidential election will be held in Iran on June 28. As Mehr reports, Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for the pre-election agency of Iran, said.

“June 28 will be the fourteenth presidential election day (in the history of Iran),” Eslami noted.

He said that “the Guardian Council was proposed to start the registration of candidates on May 28”.

The Guardian Council is a constitutionally mandated body in Iran that, in addition to analyzing the constitutionality of laws passed by the Majlis (Iranian Parliament), is responsible for approving candidates in elections. It also approves candidates for top government positions, including the president.
