Biden presents Israel’s proposal to end war in Gaza
U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Hamas to accept a new Israeli proposal to end the conflict in Gaza, the BBC reports.
“The first phase of the proposed plan would include a full and complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of IDF forces from populated areas and the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners,” Biden said in a speech at the White House.
The three-part proposal would begin with a six-week ceasefire under which the Israel Defense Forces would withdraw from populated areas of the Gaza Strip.
“This is truly a decisive moment. Hamas says it wants a ceasefire. This deal is an opportunity to prove whether they really mean it. The ceasefire would allow more humanitarian aid to reach the beleaguered territory, with 600 trucks carrying aid into Gaza every single day,” Biden said.
