Armenian chess players enter FIDE Grand Swiss tournament to qualify for World Chess Championship 2024

The FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2023 kicks off on Oct. 25 in
the Isle of Man. 

Hayk Martirosyan, Gabriel Sargissian, Hrant Melkumyan, Shant
Sargsyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Manuel Petrosyan are representing Armenia in
the men’s tournament. Elina Danielyan and Mariam Mkrtchyan are taking part in
the women’s tournament.

The players who finish in first and second places in each
tournament will qualify for the World Chess Championship 2024. 

The former leader of the Armenian national team, now
representing the U.S., Levon Aronian is also playing. Aronian is ranked seventh
among the 114 players and is one of the favorites to win.
