Iran beefing up air defense in country’s eastern regions

Air defense forces of the Iranian Army, stationed in the east of the country, have received a new batch of weapons and equipment, Mehr news agency writes.

The air defense forces have received surface-to-air missiles, radar stations and drones. Their delivery took place in the presence of the commander of the Air Defense Forces, Brig. Gen. Alireza Sabahifard.

On Aug. 6, Brig. Gen. Alireza Elhami, the deputy commander of Iran’s Air Defense Forces, announced plans to step up surface-to-air defenses and produce land systems and longer-range missiles. He noted that the air defense forces are increasing their capabilities, including in the field of drones, radars, and data collection systems. Elhami added that the Iranian army is completely self-sufficient and does not depend on foreign equipment.
