Huge earthquake occurs in Romania

An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred in Romania on Sept. 16, Radio Romania reports, citing data provided by the country’s National Institute of Physics. The earthquake happened in the Vrancea seismic zone, Buzău County, at 5:40 p.m. (6:40 p.m. Yerevan time), at a depth of 152.5 kilometers.

Initially, the magnitude of the earthquake was estimated at 5.5, but it was later altered by experts. As a result of the earthquake, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) of București-Ilfov region addressed the population, urging them to keep calm and be alert in case of possible aftershocks.

The authorities have started to detect the possible consequences or damages that could have been caused by this seismic disaster. So far, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage.

Vrancea is known for its seismic activity, and earthquakes are frequent in Romania’s geological history.
