France 24: Baku is erasing everything; Soon, traces of Armenian heritage and Armenians will disappear from Nagorno-Karabakh

France 24 TV channel prepared a report about the war in Nagorno-Karabakh and the destruction of local cultural heritage by Azerbaijan.

It was noted that a year ago 120,000 Armenians were forced to emigrate due to Azerbaijan’s military attack. Journalists were not allowed to enter the area, but social media analysis and satellite images show the change Azerbaijan has made. The first thing to be noticed is the change of Armenian toponyms to Azerbaijani ones. The 50-meter cross was the symbol of the city and Christianity: It could be seen in the satellite images of May 2022, but already in September 2023, the images show a cross divided into two parts. Largely Muslim Azerbaijan is eliminating Christian iconography. In the city of Shushi, the two domes of the church first disappeared, then this year it was demolished. Not only Armenian cultural heritage was targeted, but also political symbols. The video shows how the NK parliament building is collapsing. A slogan “Karabakh is Azerbaijani” appeared in the stands of the stadium. The region’s resettlement is the priority of President Aliyev. “Soon, traces of Armenian heritage and Armenians will disappear from Nagorno-Karabakh, because Baku is erasing everything,” reads the report.
