Borrell announces lack of unity in EU regarding Middle East conflict
In an interview with Spanish TV station RTVE, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced the lack of unity in the organization, regarding the Middle East conflict.
“There are countries that, for understandable historical reasons, are ready to provide Israel not only with weapons, but also with permissiveness in its defensive or offensive actions,” he noted.
At the same time, Borrell warned that the further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East could lead to an increase in oil prices.
“Everyone knows that it is necessary to try to avoid further escalation…There was a serious attack by Iran against Israel, and we don’t know its consequences, and we can expect that Israel will respond,” Borrell said.
According to the diplomat, this could “draw the region into a big conflict, and this, of course, will affect oil prices.”
“Netanyahu’s government has not heeded anyone,” the diplomat said. “The request of the international community not to invade Lebanon was ignored, as well as the request not to enter the cities of Gaza.”
