With regard to the mass destruction of buildings by Baku in Stepanakert, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova noted that it is about the territory of Azerbaijan, where the laws of that country apply. She added that if it is about the destruction of cultural objects, there are international organizations dealing with that issue.
“We really sympathize with the people who left their homes, who were born there, and whose relatives are buried there. More than once, we have emphasized the constructive steps taken by Baku, aimed at giving the people who left their native places the opportunity to return to their homes. We also raise this issue during bilateral contacts with our Azerbaijani partners. An opportunity to return has been provided. I do not want to comment on the steps taken by the Armenian authorities. If people want to return to their homes, they should take that opportunity. Has anything been done by the Armenian authorities so that these people will return to their homes?” Zakharova noted.
