Macron on possible timelines for ceasefire in Ukraine
A ceasefire in Ukraine could be achieved in the coming weeks, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
“I believe it is possible to at least reach a ceasefire and then begin discussing sustainable peace. I think this can be achieved in the next few weeks,” the French president said in an interview with Fox News.
According to Macron, this has become possible due to Donald Trump’s return to the U.S. presidency. “I consider President Trump’s initiative very positive. President Trump’s coming to power was a turning point,” Macron noted.
The French president also spoke positively of the talks between Moscow and Washington, noting that the absence of European representatives was not surprising.
“It is normal for the U.S. to have discussions with Russia; they have many other topics to negotiate. The concern is that we were worried about the discussion of the issue in the absence of Ukraine or the absence of Europe regarding European security,” he clarified.
The French president added that he considers it necessary to work together to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, as it directly relates to European security.
