Aliyev: Armenia and Azerbaijan must ‘look to the future’

Most of the points in the text of the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan have already been agreed upon, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said during the opening ceremony of the XII Global Baku Forum.

According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan is the author of the document that should lead the South Caucasus region to peace.

The Azerbaijani leader declared that Baku is ready to turn the page on this chapter of history, and the sides must “look to the future.”

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced at the end of February that the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan would hold a meeting, after which the process would begin from the northern part of the border. Grigoryan noted that the sides had agreed to hold intensive meetings on this issue, with one potentially taking place in the near future.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated that Moscow supports the development of a peace treaty by Armenia and Azerbaijan, which would pave the way for a stable, long-term resolution of relations rather than “setting a mine” for future generations. He noted that Russia is ready to help the countries move forward.
