Aliyev: The text of the peace treaty has been agreed upon, but Azerbaijan has other conditions
So far, the text of the peace treaty has been fully agreed upon and consists of 17 paragraphs; Azerbaijan is not proposing any additional conditions, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev says.
“Our conditions are known to Armenia and are not new. We put these conditions forward a long time ago, but we have not received any serious response from Armenia. What are they? First, the OSCE Minsk Group must be eliminated,” Aliyev said at a press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
According to him, the second issue concerns Armenia’s Constitution. It contains a reference to Armenia’s Declaration of Independence, which is an integral part of the Constitution, and there is a provision regarding “the annexation of Azerbaijan’s legal and historical territory to Armenia.”
“This is a territorial claim against us. The removal of this is our legitimate demand. After fulfilling these two demands, there will be no issues regarding the signing of the peace treaty. As they say, the ball is in Armenia’s court. If Armenia really wants to sign a peace treaty, it must accept these two legitimate conditions of Azerbaijan,” Aliyev stated.
