Tasmagambetov: Preserving historical memory is a way for CSTO member countries to push back common security threats

The factor of nuclear weapons and the relatively universal mechanism of military escalation give a common nature to the potential third world war, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said during the international conference, titled “The Contribution of the Peoples of CSTO Member Countries to the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War”. The conference was held at Russia’s Central Armed Forces Museum.

“Our sacred duty and obligation are to fight to preserve our historical memory, to oppose any attempts to distort the events of those years, and to diminish the significance of the great feat of the Soviet people,” Tasmagambetov said.

In his view, in the current “extremely difficult” period, preserving historical memory and passing on cultural traditions are not only obligations but also ways for CSTO member countries to overcome challenges and push back common security threats. Tasmagambetov added that the organization is a worthy successor to the traditions that helped the peoples of the USSR win the Great Patriotic War.
